This year has been filled with ups and downs, the invariable roller coaster of adopting an older child. It has been a year of tremendous learning... learning how to be parents all over again, learning how to answer the very hard questions that our children ask us, learning how to be a family of 6, and learning to laugh at ourselves (still working on that one).
We are getting there. No. We are not there yet. To be quite honest, in some ways, we still have a way to go. We've mastered buying a lot of groceries and putting together a meal for 6 people with very different tastes. We have not mastered some of the behaviors and social awkwardness that our boys continue to struggle with.
At the end of the year, though, we are a family. Dysfunctional at times. Cranky at times. Happy at times. We cry together, laugh together, and (yes, amazing) even have fun together.
Then:

The boys enjoyed some real injera and shiro a few weeks ago. They really loved teaching their big sister how to eat it.
We took a family trip to Disney to celebrate our first year together (more about that later). You know you're family when you take a family vacation to Disney!

hey!
it's been awhile, huh? great to hear from you and great to see your little ones! they are really growing up! the best part is you MADE IT!!! nothing can be harder than the first year, right? that's what i tell myself :)
You're an inspiration! I have such pride in and admiration for my big sister and brother-in-law. What love, generosity, and selflessness you've shown. What a beautiful, real-life illustration of what God has done for each of us. He has adopted/chosen us and loved us purely despite our pasts, wounds, questions/ doubts, behaviors, etc. We are his precious children! We pray for you often that God will give you all you need as you show His love to all 4 of your beautiful and unique children. Love you, sis!
